OS X's built in FTP proggy only gives you read permissions for some reason

Transmit FTW, unless you can use webDAV to connect to your server

I had that problem with my linux ftp server that I recently got running. I could login with my ibook, but it was read only. After monkeying around with the server configuration, I got it read-write (from Finder).

I don't even know, to be honest. I use proftpd for the server, configured with webmin. I got the server working this weekend, but it was read only. I went back to my linux box, fooled around with it some more, went back to my ibook, reconnected (with Finder's "connect to server"), and now had rw. It was pretty cool, but I couldn't tell you specifically what did it.
