I've been reading all the stickies and some magazines and have only confused myself about which protein to take when. I hear various proteins are best to take in the morning, before bed, before or after workout etc.

My immediate goals are to lose weight 190 down to about 175 (down to 186 so far) while gaining some strength. After I hit my target weight I'll try to maintain it for a few months while lowering my bodyfat.

Right now for protein I have:

    Muscle Milk light
    GNC whey
    Oryx Goat whey
    spiru-ten (soy protein)
APC (a few varieties, mostly soy + whey)

They all have varying combos of protein, carbs and other things.

Point me in the right direction here please? Is there a different protein supplement I need?

I hear whey is the best, I guess what I'm more curious about is the other things besides the protein. Some of the powders have almost no carbs, some have as many carbs as protein for example.

Post workout it's good to take in some carbs with your protein shake. Otherwise all it will do is make you fatter.

gnc whey should be all you need. Get it online though it will be much cheaper. I usually buy the 10lbs when its on sale. Just make sure you get most of your protein from whole food sources.

I get everything I need for free so not worried about

It's why I have 5 or 6 types of protein right now.

The GNC whey has 20g of protein and 5g of carbs, is that enough carbs for post-workout? What I've been reading now leads me to believe that the muscle milk is good for in-between meals or before bed and the GNC is good for post-workout. Accurate?
