Confused about the 27" iMac i7 that I ordered...should I get the 24" instead?

Well...the total came out to $2400 w/ tax and shipping for a 27" iMac w/ 8GB of RAM and i7.

Was thinking...how about buying a 24" iMac 3.06GHz (last model top of the line) for $1349 (almost 40% off refurb in Apple store) and a refurb 24" LED Apple Display ($599) instead of the new one that I have on order (not shipped yet).

2 monitors vs. 1. Newest vs. Pretty darn good. Non-LED primary display + LED secondary display vs. 1 HUGE LED display. Also save like $400 or should I just say fuck it and keep my order open?

If you can wait a few more weeks, I'd get the base i5 from MacConnection. No tax, $50 off and a $100 rebate = $1850, then get some non-overpriced RAM from Crucial or someone for $80 and install it yourself. MacMall also has some good deals, and if you don't want to install the RAM they'll buy it and install it for you for half of what Apple charges. But you probably won't get the iMac until late this month at the earliest if you buy from a reseller.

I'm doing photography so, don't need a massive work horse. Would be nice, but not necessary.

I'd definitely get the $1850 i5 then. $100 less than the C2D + monitor but much more powerful with a much better screen, and $550 less than the i7 but pretty much the same.

Edit: Forgot about the RAM. So it'd be $1950, same price as the refurb/monitor, $450 less than the i7.

I decided to just stick w/ the i7 w/ the 8GB of RAM. I'll probably add a second Dell monitor at some point in the future unless I can get a killer deal on a 30" Cinema display.

Yep - or if you have a Mac Pro with a Mini DVI port in the video card (Radeon) it will work. (That's my setup)

I called Apple to see when my Mac will ship since it keeps saying "November" and they gave me free expedited shipping. Basically, I had paid for it and he just credited my account the $33 bux or so for it since the "No real ship date" was inconvenient for me.

Apple gets kudos on little things like this!

I've been reading a MacRumors thread about the shipping date and pretty much everybody in it has gotten the free expedited shipping. Anybody can just call Apple and ask for it and they'll get it.
