I downloaded a file and I believe it could have been infected but now when I go to delete it, it says "Cannot delete ***: There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."

How can I delete the file? Anyone, please help!

If you're running Windows 98 or something, try rebooting to DOS and deleting it.

Or/also check the task manager and kill any tasks that might be holding a lock on the file.

    a) Make sure it's not open, kill any WMP processes that are still going, as these might still have the file open
    b) Delete it from DOS: run a command window, cd to the directory and erase file.mpg

In windows 2000, i believe that it is called VGA mode. it loads the minimum set of drivers that is needed and does not load any non-vital apps.

Then you should be able to delete it. i had a file in XP pro that I could not delete and I went into safe mode and did it that way.

God I hate this :greddy: Shit. The same thing is happening to me, only after downloading massive amounts of porn from kazaa I get these sketchy files like, big tit fuck cum fucked (1) (2), and the extension is .bmp or .b. I tried deleting it through dos with no luck, safe mode, disabling thumbnail view and nothing works. Reformatting works, but I get one of these almost every time I search for "lesbian threesome", select all the search results and go to bed. :squint: Here's a shot, as you can see it wont even give me the option to delete it, and when I try to delete the folder it just doesn't do anything.

If had this problem myself.... Not even booting in safe mode or hooking the hard drive to a seperate machine worked.

You have to modify the registry.
