I'm looking for some decent speakers for my dorm room. I don't need anything 5.1, something either 2.0 or 2.1 that will have a good quality sound to it. I've been told that Bose is overrated when it comes to speakers (but they are great for headphones). What brand do people suggest?

i would go by how much you want to spend and then determine the manufacturers in your price range. If money is not an issue, what will you be primarily using it for? music, movies, gaming?

ugh, avoid logitech... heck, avoid anything labeled as a "computer speaker".

For inexpensive, get a HTiaB, otherwise, some studio monitors and a good studio sub.

I like Onkyo. It's pretty subjective with what you prefer and what's out there. Are you brand loyal? Do you prefer more highs, mids, bass?

I would take the opportunity to demo the different brands out there and what sounds best with your music preferences. Bring your music cd to test the different manufacturers out there.

i more of a bass kinda of person, but nothing that rattles too much. so i guess im in between bass and mid. i don't consider myself to be an audiophile, but i can distinguish between decent sound and shitty sound.

logitecs are more than enough for in any dorms. Most college students use the built in speakers for listening to music. Logitech is a huge upgrade from built ins. besides it's for college not for listening to every single detail of a song.

I'll have to disagree with that because every room I walk by, not a single one of them use built-in speakers. It might have something to do with my school being an art school, and many people are music majors, but that's just what I've observed.

I've got a MacBook Pro, and the internal speakers are good, but not good enough. I have the Apple Pro speakers, and they sound good to me. However my it won't work with my MBP, and I won't spend $80 for an adapter.

    Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

I got them for $150 last year, love 'em. They sound great, they're pretty small (don't be decieved by the 6.5" sub, it puts out plenty of bass and it's clean bass, not like that sloppy ass Z-5500) and overall, worth every penny. The sub shakes my desk in movies, and I have a really big heavy wooden desk (custom made, cypress desk).
