Turned it off a week or so ago, now it just restarts itself. doesn't even get to windows. says its booting, then just before where windows would normally start. shuts off and restarts and so on, repeat cycle
    any ideas.

well, there's prolly a way to fix it, but just reinstall windows and save yourself the hassle.

    Tried last known good configuration?

Before fully reinstalling, you might try a repair install. Boot from your Windows disc and run through the prompts to install Windows, it should find the existing installation and give you the option to repair.

:greddy: windows repair results in one of only two options:

    1) still borked
    2) half-borked... boots... but is still fux0r3d. Usually slow.

ok, a little more progress. battery wasn't problem. unplugged power from master harddrive. the slave drive booted to windows me, me is fucked so i won't get anywhere with that. its the reason i have a new harddrive with xp. bios detects the master hd. i unplugged the slave, no change. switched the power between the hdrives, no chnge other then when i unplugged the master. the hard drive is there. no funny noises. i could pull the dir in dos, but xp won't boot, and the restart continues. reinstalling windows changed nothing.

ok, something new happened, the reinstallation of xp worked the second time. haven't got all my programs back. lost access to my downloaded files. the space on my hard drive is still missing. now i gotta recover it. if i can recover it, not sure i trust shutting it off again. don't know why it didn't work the first tim. the only difference is the new battery. the old one was corroded a litle.

  14. battery, or board is fucked

i just lost a nice board to what i think was a power surge during a storm, it started doing the same thing yours was and eventually stopped posting all together

sucks too, i could run my 2.4 northwood 1ghz over default on that board....

running 2.45 now in some cheapo via board i had laying around.
