in fact, it's not virus related. my computer will randomly reset itself, but it gives signals as to its about to happen...my DSL will go down...moments after ( maybe 1-5 minutes ) my computer randomly restarts itself.

is this due to low system memory or what? :( ( i have 512MB of ram )

    stupid comp

I'm wondering if you're cooking your processor. You able to get any CPU temps? Is your CPU fan still spinning? Is there a lot of dust/dirt around the fans? It may not be the problem, but it doesn't cost anything to check.

First thing to look at would be the temperature of the CPU. Maybe take the whole thing apart and dust it out. Then fire it up with the case open and make sure all the fans are working.

ok, i'm pretty sure it's not the CPU overheating as i've kept an eye on the system:

    system:
    windows XP professional
    3.06Ghz Pentium IV
    512Mb DDR RAM

i have a CPU temp monitor:
"processor zone" is running @ 104 farenheit
    "system zone 1" is running @ 91
    "system zone 2" is running @ 93
system fan is running @ 3126 RPMs

i'm sure my fans are working cuz my case is open and i'm looking at it :)

Hmm... ok, I think its fair to rule out over temp. reboots.

My next theory is the network card is the problem. But let me ask this: Before the computer reboots, you say your DSL goes down. Goes down how? Like can't connect to anything from your computer? Or the lights on your DSL router gadget imply your connection is down?

no internet connection ( but here's the weird part....it's only on my computer. my DSL connection says my connection is still active and the rest of the computers on my networks still receive the internet connection until my comp reboots. )

:dunno: my P4 used to have short temp "spikes" that told the motherboard to shut down. If not the cpu it was the chasis temp that shut down the pc at 112 degrees. I disabled that feature
