Computer Problem!!!

    I bought a compaq laptop about a month ago . when I try to connect it says "connection stautus: unknown then it says the dependancy service or group failed to start. when i try enabling that it wont let me. the rest of the computers in the house (all run with cords) have no problems and when i try plugging in a ethernet cord to the laptop it wont even connect then.... is there something i can do to fix this??

    It is reading that there is a router in the area but it only says the computer has limited access and wont even let me connect......

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    the software needed to restart the computer i dont know exactly what its called but thats what it had me repair

    still looking for some help does anybody have any suggestions? could it be my network driver? if so how do i get a new driver (no cds came with computer)?

    have you called compaq support? i can't really understand what you are talking about, but they should be able to walk you through fixing it especially if it is that new.

    I rewrote it so it is a little easier to understand. The problem i have is i have no idea on how to work on a computer or what things are called....

    That's why it was suggested to take it to someone who does.

    There's no shame dude, I can't change my oil or brakes - I'd love to know how but the opportunity to do so was never given to me when I was younger and now I live in a condo that prevents me anyway.

    have you tried contacting HP's support for the laptop? home pc companies are used to working with people who aren't the most technical. it is how i started in IT quite a few years ago.

    Oh I don't disagree with this, not at all.

    But as someone fully qualified to do open heart surgery to your PC, I go into Circuit City and look at the people that are in the geek squad and the prices and walk out with nothing but fear and pity for the poor schmucks that take there stuff there.

    Go find some sort of ma and pa shop in your area. They will probably charge less then Geek Squad and they won't screw up your stuff - or do unecessary work in the process.

    This notebook is too knew for you to be trying to troubleshoot this on your own.

    Do like everyone is telling you and call up HP support.

    I just wanted to make sure it wasnt just some easy fix like a setting that got messed up or something that could easily be reversed because it was working then wasnt..Thanks for the help

    Also i was reading on the Faq about the wireless problem and it said i may have to do a system restore... would i need the recovery disks for that( not included i would have to make) or would it just go to a point before when my connection was working?

    Taking a look at the event viewer should tell you which service is not starting that is needed.

    jesus christ, how many days are you going to sit there with this thing not working? you have a new laptop which comes with support. you aren't getting what you need here. get on the phone and use the support that you paid for. you're going to start doing stupid stuff to your laptop instead of calling people who have probably already seen that same issue and may have an idea how to fix it.

    I have actually contacted them and i am going to get cds today to make the recovery disks like i said just wanted to make sure it was a setting but i should be all set now they suggested a system restore as the previous step they suggested didnt work thanks for your help
