Alright, today I was on my computer and then it froze.

    At the time I was:
    1. Had Ares open (wasn't sharing or downloading)
    2. AIM w/ away message
    3. Windows Media Player in which I was searching for a song in a folder.

When I was searching for a song, my whole computer froze up.
i had to shut it down via pressing the button on the front becasue i could CTRL ALT DEL or go to log out and restart.

So then after I shut my computer off. I turn it back on to see if it is going to work... but NO! this error came up

Windows could not start becasue the following file is missing:
    <Windows root>/system 32/ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?

    any easy ways to fix?

Can i boot it up in safe mode? If so how do i do that?

Thanks alot for the help guys. I really need it

This is usually due to an error in the file that tells your computer how to boot. the entry for windows XP is either missing or corrupt. edit the file called 'boot.ini' and makes sure everything has the format

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\winnt="Windows NT workstation"

If everything looks okay, find your windows installation disk, and copy the file 'NTOSKRNL.EXE' from the cd to c:/windows/system32/ thereby replacing the corrupt copy.

If you don't know how to do this without your computer booting, take it somewhere to be repaired. NOT best buy, compusa, etc, go to a computer store, take them that webpage.

    edit

on second thought, if you cant read that webpage, dont fuck with it. take it somewhere
