Hi, sorry for the noob questions but.
I heard it is better to leave the computer on than shut it off every night. Is this true? If so how lond do you usually leave it on?
    Thanks

not true. I turn mine off every evening, and turn it on every morning... Saves my power bill, and I've never had anything "fail" because of it.

I'm indifferent to it, some days i leave it on for 24 hrs, some days it's not on more more than 4.

I don't know the truth to this, but I've heard that leaving your computer on all the time wears out the bearings in the fans and hard drive motors and can cause them to fail sooner.

The more you use them, the sooner they'll fail... That's what the MTBF rating is... its the average number of hours between failures for a given component.

I rarely, if ever, turn my PC off. It's not for fear of anything, it's just from laziness.

It really doesn't make a difference as long as your have a good power supply that can handle the sudden jolt of power when all your PC's components come online. Likewise, some components can't deal with the heat generated by being on constantly; fluid-filled capacitors are especially sensitive to this.

In short, a crappy PC will burn out one way or the other, and a good PC won't burn out.

me too. though it is really preference. I turn mine off at home and I never have had problems. At work it is just logged off but not powered down. This is so we can remote in when needed.

Dont think it really matters, at home I turn it off at night, turn it on in the morning unless there are thunderstorms then I turn it off. I would probably leave it on all the time but I have some LED's and I must have pitch black for my quality sleep time. =/ My pc at work stays on 24/7 and if you think about it servers stay on 24/7 and usually run with no down time for quite a while.

I turn mine off if I am going to be away for a while. Other than that, it stays on.
