    i have a jack ass friend that deleted all of his hard drive, is there a way to get to system restore after he did this or is he fucked.

    that's what i was afraid of he doesn't have the xp disk he'll have to buy one if that is the only way to fix it, what a fuckin retard, he's not the brightest bulb out of the bunch.

    system restore is pretty much just a 'rollback' utility and doesn't monitor everything.
    with xp, you can't go to system restore if you can't boot anyway. (Vista has WinRE)

    use a true data recovery utility or undelete tools to fully recover the drive.
    most can recover accidental formats.

    i would suggest getdataback for ntfs (unless his drive is fat32, then us getdataback for fat)

    take out his hard drive, install it as a slave in another computer, let the software run and recover what it can. i would suggest you have it recover to an external. then format his drive again, install windows, connect up the external and dump the recovered files onto his drive.

    this is good software, it has saved me a few times. i've even used it on flash drives and memory cards. i think it is worth the price ($69)

    ^ Agreed.

    If you just want to try and get out of installing windows/programs again, that probably won't happen. But recovering other data is an option.
