My computer freezes up when using Windows Exploerer. Then when I shut down the computer I have to end task on everything as it's not responding.

Its windows xp prof. I have disabled all prog. running in the background ran a virus scan, defragged the drive, ran ad-aware, and del. the temp files.

The computer takes forever to bring up the properties of files also. If I right click on a file and click on properties it takes forever and sometimes locks up the computer for up to 5 minute to bring up the properties screen.

    Its a 128meg geforce 4 ti4200 vid. card
    2.22ghz Intel
    Asus p4g533 mobo
    512megs ram
viewsonic (set at 85 refresh rate)

I don't want to reinstall winxp!!!!!!!

does this happen in a certain directory or all of them? have you tried changing views?

the reason I ask is because explorer crashes on my laptop if I have a certain view on in certain directories - :dunno: why but I changed the views for those directories to list and no more problems
