I have a cable for my printer that is the small parallel size ( goes in printer ) to serial plugs into computer. My new computer does not have any serial plugs. I bought a parallel to USB but it turns out the parallel on it is the older large size parallel.

Is there a cheap large to small parallel adapter in existance? This might be a really stupid question but is a wire splice and switch possible as the large and small look exactly the same except for the size. Any ideas?

Get a cheap printer off craigslist/ebay. Seriously, any printer that only has a serial interface is pretty old.

I'm not even sure if these are made, but you could possibly get a PCI Expansion Serial card to add serial capability to your computer.

Wrong forum by the way, but unless your printer is ancient (5 years or older) then it should have a USB plugin also somewhere present, along with the parallel that's on it. Im also going along with above poster, if your printer is really that old, you should update it with a new one.

    replace the printer

if you can find that adapter, the shop you get it from is going to rape you on the cost

watch the sunday papers, you can get a cheap-ass usb printer for under $30 these days

i didnt know they even made serial port printers

i remember my parents running out to walmart to get a usb to parallel adapter when they bought a new pc that didn't have a parallel port. they spent like $30 on that

i bought a printer last year for the same amount

It came up in another thread a while back, and I asked about it.
You never said one way or another. Even Deusexaethera posted, wondering if someone had been modded.
So I wound up thinking that maybe a numbered name can be in bold even if the person is not a mod.
Plus, when I look at the bottom of the computer forum it doesn't show your name in the mod list.

It doesn't happen to be an HP does it? HP had their own proprietary cable for a little while that kind of looked like a smaller version of the parallel cable - the other end plugged into the parallel port though.

It's a mini-centronix. I've also not seen much on serial printers. I'd be looking for a new one too.
