I have a dell ispiron 6000 that i bought new about 3-4 years ago that is starting to act shitty. i will go to the computer in the morning after it just staying on all night and find that it shut off to prevent overheating. on top of that, it is running unbelievably slow, so slow that i can barely play flash games on it. i have 1GB of ram in it and reinstalled windows xp fresh in december. any suggestions on how to make it run better besides getting a new computer?

    its a dell.

i'm fucking amazed it lasted 3-4 years. cut your losses, pat yourself on the back for quadrupling it's life expectancy, and spend $700 on a new machine.

however, check the sink/fans for cloggage or failure. heat causes efficiency to wane

How do you know its overheating? Does it say fan failure or something? Open up the computer, clean out the dust and shit, and also check if all the fans are spinning. Just go ahead and power it on with the side of the case taken off and just take a look to see if the fans are spinning.

Christ... Nothing wrong with a Dell....

Like said above, blow the dust out if any.

A reformat is always good to do once in a while.
