Do you ever think they will come up with something like that?

Smooth magnetic resistence and computer controlled weight. It would be useful for pyramid sets. The computer could also control how much weight you are lifting so it can take weight away gradually when you're on the 7th rep and struggling to bring it up.

It could also be useful for lifting without a spotter, negatives, preventing injury, correcting bad form, etc.

    too expensive to be useful

the eletricity bills would be through the roof, not to mention all the extra costs of heavy duty power cables and new cable boxes. Gigantic magnets aren't cheap either.

    Maybe in 20 years :dunno:

That's what they said about the computer 30 years ago.

if one day they have the technology, i don't see a problem with making weightlifting safer and more efficient

you'd be able to forgo bands/chains etc and have exactly the right amount of resistance at a particular height.

until someone with a pace maker or an artifical heart jumped on the bench.

itd be a mess...thered be magnetic fields going everywhere messing with everyones equipment. force is a function of distance so fields would have to be increased as you got further away and decreased as you got closer which is kinda the opposite of bands and what not. also theres really no way to generate a field straight vertically or anything it just kinda spheres outward. id imagine the best possibility for that would be having weight stacks use it. freeweights being converted into something like that would be incredibly far off and difficult to do.

the way things are going who knows. everybody loves machines. they don't have to load/unload it. move the pin and they are set.

    lazy fucks.

Id rather see a resistance body suit that you can wear. So that on all planes of movment you could have resistance.
