I'm going to visit my friend this weekend and while I'm there I would like to check out his PC. It's probably loaded with spyware and shit because he's not careful on the internet and doesn't do any preventative maintenance. Last time I was there, it was freezing up after being on for a little while.

It's been a while since I've kept a Windows machine so I'm not really sure what I should bring with me. (I have Macs, and a work PC which is maintained automatically by the IT dept.)

I want to download things to take with me because I don't know what their internet situation is (he just moved into a new house). I'm thinking stuff like Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, and AVG. What else should I bring? He has XP Pro installed.

CCleaner works well for disk cleanup & registry cleaning

I recommend against it. Haven't had it help me, and have had it hurt.

Toss it in, turn it on, make sure you put on the dry cycle too! Come back in 1 hour and you're ready to rock!

I've had great luck with CCleaner. On a system that's been running for 6+ months, it's easy to find 500mb or more of junk. Use caution if you use their registry cleaner, just make sure to back up before you actually remove.
