Mer - I may have them on an old hard drive (or even a printed copy). I'll take a look and see what I come up with. I'm sure I have some of your stuff saved just not sure if I have those stories.

my ex is going to make another attempt to rescue my work off my old hard drive, he thinks he's got a new plan that might work, if not I'll let you know and then maybe there's a chance you'll have them

Try File Recovery Pro by LC Technology. It's free to try. Works very well for file recovery. I've recovered every failed hard drive with this software except one (which had physical damage.)

    Good luck!

even a hard drive that's probably 8 (or more) years old?

my friend has some sort of program that she bought and has used a number of times, but this was too old for what she had

Yeah, I use it on my ancient Pentium III servers. It's free to try, so it's worth a shot I figure.

You should also Google "hard drive freezer" - there is a way to freeze your hard drive for a short time, then slap it in your computer and it'll be revived for 15-30 minutes. Yes, this is for real. Go research it carefully, it may help.

    Holy Crap

I was able to get them all back. Someone sent me Natalie, but the other two were still at literotica, even though neither of them were on their listing of stories. creek/log/dog was still under my submissions even though they'd rejected it saying it had beastiality (which I disagree) and I was able to open it to edit it and therefor copy paste it. And, lolly was still in in one of the forums where I'd posted it for feedback however many years ago. I don't think they purge anything at that site
