I have been trying to find the most optimal settings for importing my 5D2 files into FCP but I get so many mixed reviews for optimal import and output.

    Any insight? :wtc:

I generally work in ProRes 422 HQ. Don't try to work in the native H.264 - it's a delivery codec designed to save space, not designed to be fast or easy to work with on its own. I typically convert all my video on the front end, doing the 23.976 conversion as well when appropriate.

Since I edit on a MacBook Pro and strictly for web, I convert all my 7D footage to ProRes 422 Proxy in Compressor and edit that.
