I just went into the 2nd part of a three part interview. My recruitment interviewer went over my applications and asked me questions regarding past experiences and such. Everything went well until she got to the part on training.

She said the training program is 8 weeks long and 100% attendance is required. The program is Mon-Fri 4:30pm-1:00am. She asked if anything would stop me from making 100% attendance. I told her, I might have to miss like 1 day due to drill on Friday night.

She went on to say how important each day was, and how you can't miss a day because there is no time to make it up. I asked if it would be okay, because it's the military and such, and if required I could ask to be excused from a day of drill if 100% required. (I did tell her though that I've never been late/missed a day of drill and didn't ever want to start.)

Everything else went smooth. I know a friend who just got a job there with no experience in customer support, and was hired. I have about 2 years of experience and I got a letter that said I was not choose to proceed to the next step.

I'm going to get ahold of my recruitment interviewer when she is in tomorrow and ask why I wasn't choosen. However, I have a strong feeling that it was due to being reservist and missing 1 class day.

If this is the case what can I Do? (and yes, the job is worth it)

CLIFFS: Job most likely didn't hire me to due to having to miss 1 day of training because of Drill.

You should have asked her what the importance of her freedom, and ability to attend her own job everyday was, when she told you that missing one day was so important.

even if it is illegal, good luck proving that alone was why you weren't hired.

private corporations should not be compelled to hire reservists.

    True Story... :wtc::wtc:

Going to ask what the official reason was. Maybe they can still work something out. Otherwise I'll ask for her manager (if possible) and let them know the situation. If that fails, I'll let them know I'm in contact with the VA/Local News (not that I would, but it makes them think twice :mamoru: )

Really wanted this job too :hs:

who in the fuck are all these fucking non-military pussies talking shit in the military forum? :ugh2:

It is illegal to refuse a job to a member of the reserves based on the fact that they are a reservist. But when asked, the company can always mention something about anything you said during the interview as a reason why they didn't hire you. It could even be something as intangible as your attitude.

cliffs: you will probably not get anywhere with this, but I hope you poz their neg holes.

For future reference, you should have said, "No problem" and then requested the day off from drill if necessary.

I stand corrected and you're an jackass for saying that corporations should be able to use the fact that someone is a reservist as a reason to not hire them.

    What branch are you in?
How long have you been in?

Employees need protection civilian and military alike, our country's version of capitalism is atrocious and the employee is typically completely unvalued, especially in the "right to work" states.

A company could have a position open, hire 1 person, find him to not be the perfectionist they sought, fire him, over 2-3 months period hire and fire 20 other individuals until they finally find their perfect worker - as opposed to training and building employees like was done in the yester-year, or finding their strengths and moving them around to stations that they would excel and - and now what, your city/state has an extra 20-30 unemployed individuals. What's this do for your local economy?

    That's an exaggeration, of course.

There are definitely worse places to live, but if we're going to be a society whose financial infrastructure is based on big business as the sole proponent, then that needs governance, imo.

If there are no regulations in hiring resevists, do you think any reservists would have jobs? Probably not - what company wants to deal with someone who might have to depoy or take leave constantly.
