I can get a 3GB microdrive for about 95 bucks, and a 1gb compactflash card for about 60 or 70.

In my mind I should just spend the extra 30 bucks and triple the space, but I wanted to hear people's thoughts about it.

Just keep your eyes peeled on http://www.dealsofamerica.com Those 2GB Kingston Elite Pro cards for $85 shipped will pop up again soon.

I would use a Microdrive if my camera stayed in a studio 24/7.

CF is faster and more reliable. MD gives you higher capacities but CF is cheap these days so there's no reason to go MD.
