Anyone using the microdrives? Do they support RAW format?

How many memory cards do you guys have..what sizes? How often do you fill those sizes up? Shoot events?

  2. Stay away from micro drives. The first time you drop it you're fucked!

    Stick with Compact Flash.
    Right now I have
    1GB
    512MB
    256MB x 2

And I ordered two 2GB Cards not too long ago. :bigthumb:

    2GB = around $109 :bigthumb:

In jpeg mode at events I could get alittle over 400 images at 8 megapixels using my sony 828. It's easy to take 400 photos.

:werd: avoid the micro drives. They are fragile, and slower than shit. I have a 2gb Extreme III and 2x 1gb ultra II's. More than I need for a day of shooting.

  5. :mamoru: I hardly ever use the 256's anymore. Can only fit like 40 images? :mamoru:

I just keep em around for back up :dunno:

at the super cheap prices that highspeed CF is at these days, there really no reason to bother with microdrives. 1gb Ultra II is like 60 bucks, 1gb extreme III is around 75. 2gb ultra II is around 80, and 2gb extreme III is around 109.

2, 2gb ultra II's are probably the best bang for the buck. shoot with one card, while the other one is tranfering.

  8. Not only that but if you damage or lose one card it's not as big of a deal because you still have another 2GB for backup and losing/damaging $100 isn't as bad as losing/damaging a $200 4GB card and not really having much for backup.

no reason to go microdrive these days. early in the piece it was worth it because of the capacity benefit but now solid state CF is cheap and big enough that you should use it instead. much more reliable.

    2 x 512MB Sandisk Extreme

Getting a 4GB Extreme 3 for the upcoming D200 and probably another 2GB Extreme 3 for the D70 if I decide to use a dual camera setup for wedding and events.

I said fuck it and bought a personal storage device. As it is i've got 2 512's and a 1 gb. When i fill up the 1 gig i can throw it in the PSD and use the 512's until I come around to it again.

Wasn't all that expensive either. 100 bucks for a 30 gig with one button transfer

I keep 2 1gig Ultra II per camera, and a Nikon Coolwalker for storage if I'm going to be out of town for a while and am packing light. Otherwise, I just lug around the laptop.

    Currently using
    2 2gb E III
    2 1gb E III

    Backup
    1 6gb Hitachi microdrive
    1 1gb Ibm micodrive

I've had no problems with my microdrives so far but they have been retired for backup duty. It's not if you're going to have a problem with a drive...it's only when.:ugh:
