In your opinion, would this LCD make for a decent TV?

I'm thinking of using it on a media PC in my bedroom...90% of the time my wife will be using it to watch recorded soap operas (don't get me started) and the other 10% will be for an occassional live show.

Opinions? I've only used an LCD monitor as a TV once, and for a very limited time, so I'm looking for suggestions.

Looks decent. I've had mixed luck with Acer LCDs though. One of my customers had a bad one (I think a AL1912B), and we had to send it back three times before it got repaired successfully. Otherwise, they look decent.

They for sure look decent. And anyway, any lcd has higher resolution than
tv. So I don't think it would be a strain to use that way.
The biggest issue will be the quality of the tv/svhs out from the video card.

Not necessarily... because the LCD has such a higher resolution compared to a TV, poor interpolation can be an issue, and the display may look like crap when viewing TV.

I use a 19" widescreen LCD from my comp to watch TV. I just have a cheap ATI TV Wonder PRO, I watch TV with a program called dscaler. If you don't use a program like dscaler you will see the interlacing lines, as computers don't de-interlace like your TV does.

I was looking to do the same thing. I just ordered a dell 19 inch flat panel and ATI all in wonder 2006. What other hardware or software do you suggest to make a media PC. Any help would be appreciated!

As a general rule, all monitors make good HDTVs, and all monitors make bad regular TVs. That's because regular TV signals are way too low-quality to look right on a high-resolution monitor, which will show the static and other nastiness in crystal clear detail.

If you want to watch HDTV, a computer monitor will work great. (HDTVs are just computer monitors in disguise anyway.) If you want to watch regular TV, use a TV.

I want regular TV, but I want to put it inside a cabinet that doesn't have room for a TV but does have room for something like this. I don't want to buy a $800 flat TV...........what to do WHAT TO DO!?!?!

Best Buy has a 19" lcd monitor for $250 this week. Get it, and run cable from your comp, turn your res down to something like 1024x768. It will look fine at full screen. I do it all the time.

The panel in the AL1916W is a TN, and they are known for their poor color reproduction and bad viewing angles. However, they are cheaper than PVA and S-IPS, and typically have very low response times.

That monitor is also 16:10, as all WS computer monitors are, so viewing a WS dvd will still show bars.
