Command prompt problem

    Im tryin to work on this computer

    but whenever I tried to go to the Command Prompt

    it opens and closes real fast...

    anybody had this problem??

    I've seen that happen was when there was a rootkit on a computer.

    2003 server doesnt like a lot of old dos apps, they just close.

    What are you doing to open the command prompt?

    What you can try is right clicking the icon, properties, and look for some advanced settings. It depends on OS but there might be an option to alter the setting in there.

    So basically (if not already tried) goto run type command, it should just normally start up.

    Start > Run > "cmd.exe"

    If THAT closes automatically, something's wrong.

    I spend 30 minutes diagnosing this "problem" on the phone when a friend said he couldn't run IPCONFIG. He was going to start--run and typing IPCONFIG instead of opening a command window first.


    either start--run-- type "cmd.exe" (no quotes) or
    start--all programs--accessories-- command prompt

    (type it in the run box and you'll like it :)

    cmd /k ipconfig /all & pause & exit
