    Yeah, that could be bad.

I don't think on o-t it matters so much as on other boards. Some of these auto boards are...well, they're like the bible belt.

Glad to hear. I'm not gay but your sexual preference doesn't have any effect on how I view you as a person. :)

If more people thought like you this world would be a better place.

    Ditto

FWIW, I came out of the closet when I was 16 - a sophomore in high school. Things didn't go too well, but I was never beat up (I suppose being the best friend of one of the best football players on the school's team didn't hurt). I wound up transferring to another school the summer after I came out (the summer before my junior year). I came out at the new school within a few days, and was very relieved to see that nobody made a big deal of it (at least at the time). I later became rather popular. I've been told that my homosexuality was one reason that I was somewhat popular, but I dunno. It's probably true. I was also the only openly gay person in either of my high schools.

I personally can't fathom not wanting to talk about it, or not coming out. I had to do it for myself... I can't be at ease if people I'm around frequently don't know... I'm afraid that something will scare them, or make everything suddenly blow up. I don't know. :hs: I can function perfectly when I'm not out of the closet... I just prefer being out of the closet, always.

Well, I've recently starting coming out a bit to some of my close close friends - and they've taken it far far better than I could have ever imagined. They absolutely don't care - I even joke about having sex with them!

However, I can't see myself coming out 100% anytime soon - work in a pretty male oriented industry right now. I'm bi, which is like undecided gay LOL, and work with younger guys a lot, so it probably wouldn't... look good.

Been there... I remember when i was 16, i decided to finally get the balls to tell my really good friend. I was scared shitless but when I told him, he was just like so what? youre still the same person. I realized that the friends who don't care and appreciate you for who you are inside will inevitably stay.

On the other hand, those who get all pissy about it usually don't, which worked out well for me. My best friend in high school got pissed off when i told her a week after graduation. She told me i was sick and i never really spoke to her again. Three years later, I got a random phone call from her telling me she was living in AZ and working as some tupperware sales thing. She went to her yearbook calling old classmates up seeing if she could make a sale... Then she mentioned how she was living in a tent. I don't want to sound cruel but in some ways, i'm better off not talking to her now.

The good ones stay in, the bad ones filter themselves out.

Coming out was a bit of a drawn out process for me. I never had a moment when I thought I was str8...from the first hit of puberty on I knew who I was. I came out to a few friends when I was 16, the rest when I was 18, and my family when I was 20. In all reality, tho, I never came out to my family; I came out to my mom and within two days there wasn't anyone left to tell. :) She was a bit of a gossip.

Most of the time I feel that I wasn't really living until I started to come out to my friends. I was born in 1971 but life didn't really start until 1987. :) I lost a few friends here and there but not many and not the best of them. The one who reacted the worst tracked me down in 1992 to come out to me. He ended up spending three months living with me while he worked through the process (his dad kicked him out and disowned him) and we had a heck of a lot of fun.

OT is so full of gays lately...

Back when I joined OT (sits in his rocker and straightens the shawl over his knees) I was the only gay on the board.... People would flame me with "Take your faggotry somewhere else"...

Now we all hug and welcome the gays... Oh, how OT has changed...

Well, welcome out of the closet. If you have any questions or need some guidance, take your faggotry right here... We'll help you out.

I remember that! They were really mean at times
. I remember i came out to them in april 2002 though and they really were nice to me and offered good advice. And even you sent me some words of advice. I know I'm sounding uber :greddy: but OT has always had good people. It's just nature to attack people for their supposed weaknesses and oddities and for many, homosexuality is that.

I think that gradually over time, more people will come to realize that homosexuals are people too. People who don't always dress in makeup and drag, prancing around on their tippy toes with hands flailing in the wind.
