I bought a Serial to USB Adapter. I also bought one of the NologyOBD II Auto Dynometer that has a serial end. My laptop only has USB Ports. I plug it in and it recognizes the Belkin Serial to USB Adapter but does not see the nology OBD reader or the automobile data.

I tried manually changing to another Com Port but did not work. I'm just trying to figure out a way to make it work.

Did you make sure you installed the drivers correctly? USB->Serial converters tend not to be a really reliable way to access these types of hardware but I've used the Belkin converter on a Greddy E-Manage without any problems. You might want to try uninstalling the drivers and reinstall it completely.

I would really try to get OBDII reader to work with someone else's computer first.

Does anyone make PCMCIA serial cards still? That might be an option if the USB->serial thing doesn't work. Sometimes you can't beat a real serial port.

I don't know about the PCMCIA Serial Converter. I was thinking about trying a serial to parallel port adapter to see if that would work.

There's lots of solutions, but you haven't isolated the problem yet
