I'm thinking about getting a 1911, but can't decide if I want to go with a Colt or a Kimber. Does either one have better accessory or upgrade possibilities? I'm not looking to do too much, just maybe a compensator and some trigger work. Also, would it be best to get one used at a gun show, or just get one from a store?

I've been eyeing for awhile getting a Kimber. I've heard good and bad about their newly made ones though.

Will be awhile until I get one though. Want my CCW and another rifle first.

What's your price range? Colt can be very nice, depends what you get.

    Kimbers suck.

    hmm...

    Have you shot Wilsons before?

I've been thinking Kimber or Wilson. I've been saying Kimber because the local gun store has one I like.

Depends on what you're willing to pay. In my experience, stock, entry level colts tend to have some play between the slide and frame and some take up in the trigger.

A stock Kimber, though about $50 more, come tight out of the box and have crisp triggers.

Some shooters have had problems with Kimber's external extractor, but I think it's pretty rare.

    Edit:

I have shot a 25 year old Colt Gold Cup and it was really nice, but i wouldn't want to pay an arm and a leg for one. I did pick up a Kimber, and it's the only handgun I take to the range anymore (and a .22, of course).

I'm looking to spend around $800-$1000 at the max, if I can get a nice used one for any less then I'm all for it.
