I have a big belly and moobs, though the rest of my body is pretty average (face has some fat). I'm looking to drop the fat, gain strength, gain definition, and gain some muscle mass (not too much though). Basically, I'm looking to get a lean look with some muscle mass as well. Losing the fat and getting more defined are probably my primary goals, then strength, then muscle mass.

A few things: I am a college freshman and we're not allowed to have cars. So I'm stuck with the school gym which has the dreaded MACHINES only and no free-weights. Only free-weights are in the gym for the athletes which I can't get in (have tried). Also, hard to get to a grocery store without a car so kind of stuck eating in the dining hall most of the time (have a convenience store close to campus to get some stuff but not much). So keeping this in mind, what do you guys suggest diet and exercise wise?

    Read the stickies.

Also, you should post what your eating daily and how your workout looks.

I did read the stickies but they don't really help when I can't get access to the resources needed to follow the plans. I guess I could substitute the workouts with related machine stuff, but the diet is basically impossible to follow. I think I'm just gonna try to eat as healthy as I can in the dining hall, and get some cardio and weights in 4xweek.

No car = not easy to get to the grocery store. I know that's the cheapest route but it's just not gonna work freshman year when I can't have a car.

I'll check out that other link.

Read the nutrition sticky and learn about food in general and what choices you can make that are healthier. Once you know how much: calories, protein, carbs and fat are in a food it gets fairly simple to know what to eat.

You can use machines instead of the free weights if you need to. Start researching. From your questions I can tell you are woefully ignorant. Educate yourself!

I'd say Georgia Tech is a "major US university" and I have known plenty of freshman with cars.

Parking is ridiculous on some campuses to the point where they won't let freshman have cars. You can park them off campus if you can find a spot though. But then to get to your car you have to walk like 20 min.

I understand that, but unless you are in a prison it is entirely possible to make a 20 minute walk to your car/take the bus to go shopping once a week.

    x2.

I can understand the no car thing, my friend's UC wont let them have parking permits till their junior year. But schools like that usually offer free bus rides just for being a student. It all just goes down to how much you really care about eating healthy.
