Since I wiped out the cam in my car, im going balls out (balls deep? :naughty:)

New "Dyno Don" headers. Very Similar to the old ones, but better plug clearance, and a much better/larger y pipe. The upgrade cost was nothing since I sold my old stuff, so it was a no brainer. Check #3 and #5 primaries and how the were changed. I was pretty happy to see this.

The cam I am getting is one from Lloyd Elliot. The specs are 230/236 .565 .568 108 and it will sound like this:

    [y]RyTcTlswFm8[/y]

This setup puts about 400rwhp and 385ish rwtq. It should keep me happy for awhile :)

I wanted to but my car is lowered. Also because of my 6 speed transmission I would have to get the long tubes, a new crossmember for true duals, a custom y pipe etc...it was going to cost a lot more than I wanted to spend, despite my spending spree lol

alot of money in such a old car.

wouldn't you be better off getting a LS1 Camaro and going from there?

nope. I've had this car too long and put too much into it to start over. I quite like 3rdgens anyway. Plus this one will be faster :big grin:

Nice job. I wish I could afford some AFR's... I'm in the same boat as you with the headers... Long tubes won't clear my T-5 transmission swap (66 rustang).

The head looks good, but the rockers look like overpriced billet eye-candy that you won't even be able to see. I'm sure they'll be strong, but will they really be any stronger than stamped steel?

Fuck, is that what everyone around here says? I think I hear that every single time I post my car in the main forums "post your car threads"

How much power are you putting through the 9bolt? Slicks?
    Can you build an xmember?

Or even like the skulte design one.

LTs just make mine sound awesome. :big grin:

And for shits and giggles. You should've gone LSx. :mamoru:

  19. jsut fyi, I think you missed the point of aluminum ROLLER rockers vs stamped steel

before you post about a car in this thread you might want to research what you are posting about.

Could I explain the difference/advantage: yes
    Will I: no

if you dont want to take the time to learn about something like this I wont spend the time to explain it

OP, nice choice on parts, I bet that will be a nice car. Dont give up on the SBC, just because the "thing" to do is an LSx swap doesnt mean its for everybody

You're right, I don't get the point of aluminum roller rockers instead of stamped steel, for the following reasons:

    1. Unlike steel, aluminum has no stress floor -- you could tap it with your finger and it would crack in half, if you tapped it enough times, whereas steel can withstand a certain amount of stress for an infinite number of cycles. I suspect those rockers will see somewhat more stress than tapping on them with my finger, so they'll probably wear out a bit faster than my extreme example -- but the steel ones still would never wear out.

    2. What's the advantage of the rollers if they don't touch the camshaft? Are they just pivots then, rolling back and forth but never fully rotating? If so, fine, but does that really reduce friction and wear by any noticeable amount, or is it just a nice selling point to put on the box?

The head really does look nice though; I want to get a mini version and put it on my office desk to play with.

I'm just shaking my head at how you really don't want to learn or understand at all.

    You're a coach potato critic.

Since my last post I have bought:

    -LT4 Pressure Plate
    -McLeod Clutch disc
-Racetronix Fuel pump kit (Walbro 255LPH, Harness to hardwire pump to alternator)
    -New Lifters
    -Ordered my Cam
-Ordered my 4.11 gears, bearings, and posi from Australia

Yes, I plan on running slicks with my 9 bolt. As stated I hope to make around 400hp and 385 tq at the wheels. May be a little less because the cam is less aggressive than I first thought.

As far as true duals, no thanks. I like my car lowered, and not having to worry about bumps etc.

As far as the problem I had with my car, it was a bad cam lobe....yes, its a roller cam. I dunno...it was an old cam and just gave up the ghost.

Teardown starts in a week or so. I've decided to bring the shortblock and parts to my machine shop. They'll measure/assemble everything for $500. I think its a $500 well spent IMO. They do the shit for a living. I've done it once 10 years ago when I was 16 lol They know WAY more than me about the assembly part.

    :)
