UFC 93 fight: Mark Coleman blames lack of funds for loss

Recent UFC Hall of Fame inductee Mark Coleman believes it was a lack of money that led to him losing his Light Heavyweight fight against Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua at UFC 93 on Saturday night in Dublin.

After the fight Coleman, his face a bloody and swollen mess after three rounds of exchanging heavy punches, said; " I didn't have any money for a training camp before this fight. Those things cost money man and I just couldn't afford it."

Coleman's reaction to having the fight stopped with less than thirty seconds to go of the final round was explosive. Backstage at the arena he could be heard swearing and cursing both himself and the referee who had stopped the fight at 4:36 when Coleman appeared dazed after taking a brutal uppercut.

Once Coleman had time to calm down he recognised the part his own lack of preparation played in his performance and outlined plans to set up a proper training camp for his next fight.

It remains to be seen whether money alone will be enough to give Coleman back the edge he needs to compete in the modern UFC Light Heavyweight division.

ya he is but look who trains there

    baroni, randleman and sims

have any of them had decent money fights in the last few years. I cant see them charging alot to train there but youd think they would offer assistance.

he'd have to haev 10-15+ ppl to train to make decent money if he charged 100/person thats only 1000-1500/month and he has a family/etc on top of that.

He also looks like a person who lived the fast life and didnt save for retirement

Not sure about that, but Coleman has had a rep for being a family man that keeps his fighting career going to put food on the table.

Maybe you could be right, though. I'm sure he got a few paydays in his Grand Prix era.

Maybe that's why Dana made that co-fotn so Coleman could pocket another $40k

I find it hard to believe that a pro level and someone as well known as Mark Coleman couldn't train somewhere for this fight.

He didn't have the money to bring people in to his gym maybe, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have gone to another gym and trained with a different group of people.

    I'm not buying this.

If he can't train himself by now to fight a pathetically gassed Shogun, he has no business in a ring. He has no business complaining after that bone Dana tossed him for FON. That shit was a joke and retirement package for coming back to take one last beating.

On another note, anyone see his legs? Man was walking on sticks. Squat much?

Coleman has never evolved his game. What did he need a high level camp for when all he would work on is takedowns, GnP, and cardio?

I felt bad for him. I hoped he'd win (expecting Rua to walk right through him), and then when it turned out that Rua was in just as shitty condition as Coleman, I really thought he might pull out the win.

I don't know... They tried remaking The Bionic Woman last year and it pretty much flopped. No Lindsay Wagner no care. :o I wonder if Six Million Dollar Man remake without the original actors could work. I mean, who could possibly play Oscar Goldman?
