CMP just had a $50 price increase across the board for all grades of their M1 Garands and 1903 Springfields. The new price increase goes into effect on May 13th, so if you've been wanting to order a rifle from CMP get your order in to them before then.

    Here are the new prices:

M1 Garand Service Grade, Springfield Armory - $550.00
M1 Garand Correct Grade, Springfield Armory - $900.00
M1 Garand Field Grade, Springfield Armory - $425.00
M1 Garand Rack Grade, Springfield Armory - $395.00
    M1903 Springfield High Serial Number - $450.00
    M1903 Springfield Mark I - $450.00
    M1903 Remington - $450.00

CMP also increased the number of rifles you're allowed to purchase per year from 8 to 12 and another price increase on top of this new one is expected around December.

i don't like the fact that you can buy 12 now instead of 8. seriously, most people buying that many are gonna clean them and flip them at gun shows.

granted there a few gun nuts with garands numbering in the double digits but most people won't keep that many at one time.

i guess you could counter with, "o but they made 6 fuckin million of them," but if there is such a great supply why are they raising prices?

in short, i think every household in America should have a M1 Garand. that is all

Now I just need to find an easy way to get an order through to the CMP. Brother in the military... now if he bought a Garand and just I just kept it safe for him until he gets back... would that work?

Or is there an easier way?

Wow I didn't know the rack/field grade were so cheap. I'm being lazy so what is the biggest difference between rack and field?

Were they not the ones with the requirements to be in a marksmanship organization and compete in shooting competitions?

Man, I wish I had the money to pick up a Garand right now. My neibghor has a few that are in decent condition. I may make an offer when I've got some money to blow :o

Corrosion, barrel condition, stock condition, etc... Rack grade is pretty much unsafe to shoot, hence it being called "rack grade" (as in its meant to be hung from a rack over your mantle)

Oh, thanks. I thought rack grade would mean that they sat on a rack most of their life, so they wouldnt be conditioned/oiled and would need alot of TLC. So field would still be a shooter, just not pretty?
