So, I work in one county, and live in another. Does it matter which CLEO I go for? I have a very personal relationship with the Chief of Police in the city I work in, and would like to go through him, as it would be easier than doing the Trust.

    Anyone know? :dunno:

Gotta do it in the county you are a resident in.

If the Police Cheif wont sign, go to the Sheriff, or the DA, or one of the Judges. One of them will sign that bitch.

Cool. Good to know. I'll go talk to the one I know anyways, maybe he can put a word in with someone where I live, or a Sheriff. Should still make it easier.

    Thanks

Like said, has to be a person who has jurisdiction over your permanent residence.

Is there a list somewhere of FFL's who I can send an SBR upper to? Or can I just use my normal FFL?

What about the stripped receiver? Do I just order one as usual from my normal guy? Or does it have to be special? or not until I get my Form 1 approval and go get it engraved?

And do I have to make up the serial # for the Form 1 and order the reciever first?
:o nvm, found my answer to this

This shit is so fucking confusing

Can't believe nobody has actually put together a concise and detailed guide as to how to do this shit. You look at arfcom and m4carbine.net and everyone asks the same fucking questions over and over

You dont need an FFL to buy or ship an SBR upper. Buy from anywhere that sells that stuff and ship it to your house.

Your lower HAS to have an NFA tax stamp and be registered.

Do not buy the upper before your lower is approved. That is committing destructive intent.

Yeah, I assumed that. Just didn't know if I had to have the receiver engraved before I sent the Form 1. Looks like I do not.

How does the Serial # work? Just make one up or something?

EDIT: i really appreciate your patience and help with this, also. :wavey:

You use the serial number that's already assigned to it as a title 1 firearm.

LOL it's not that bad. Do it once and you'll have no problems doing it again.

    Check out
This guy wrote some sort of SBR faq.
    http://quarterbore.com/library/pdf_files/shortbarreledriflefaq.pdf

I liked having the majority of my information typed into my Form 1 since I have horrible fucking hand writing. So use http://www.titleii.com/

and If you arent using supplied ATF fingerprinting cards you need to make sure the ORI is filled in correctly. The ones the ATF gives you already are filled out. If not, use:

    WVATF0800
    ATF-NFA Branch
    Martinsburg, WV

Yeah I was using the TitleII.com forms.

What do I put for the Original Manufacturer, if I am building it myself? Just put my name/address there also?

And on the generated Form 1, I should just leave the CLEO stuff empty and have them fill it in when I find someone to sign it?

I really think I am going to go this route instead of the Trust. I like the idea of me actually owning it, rather than the gray areas of a Trust.

If you;re using a Colt lower. You'd put Colt and all their info in the original manufacturer spot.

If you milled your own receiver it would be you.

For the CLEO spot, I just fill in the county info etc and let them hand write in the rest.
