I'm becomeing a classical fanatic and am starting to realize that the orchestra performing these great pieces is an important factor in the experience. Please recomend me some fantastic, and more importantly, energetic orchestras. Thanks!

I thought I posted a reply already, but I guess it got lost. What I said was that I normally dig the more minor classical like Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonota, Danse Macabre, etc... Check out Hungarian Rhapsody. It's familiar and up tempo.

not looking for music, looking for orchestras who play the music - particularly ones that rock the fuck out.

Rock the fuck out and classical really don't go hand in hand. Are you looking for big band music?

:ugh: Beethoven would rock the socks off of AC/DC

you dont have to play rock and roll to rock, if you didnt know. rock is about energy and charisma, and it is easy to see the difference between two records of a classical piece such as Overture to Egmont played by different orchestras. im looking for orchestras that add that extra "umph".

why don't you download these pieces by different orchestra's and conductors, listen to them all, and see which you like best

Because that'd mean him having to do something for himself. It's much easier to just sit and wait for answers all day.

    :h5: @ getting into classical.

The next step will be the transition into bands like Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, etc.

Wow...he's just asking a simple question...
Ok, some good orch. imo are Berlin Philharmonic, Cleveland Symphony Orch, Chicago Symphony, New York Phil, Vienna Phil, Boston Symph, Detroit Symph, Philadelphia Orch.

And of course...all these orchestras have had their ups and downs over time (conductors and such ) but are generally recognized as having great players and conductors. Hope that helped :)

Ah!...and I forgot about the conductors...
    Some good combos would be...
    Berlin-Herbert von Karajan
    Eugene Ormandy-Philadelphia (I believe..whichever group he is...he's good)
    George Szell!!!!! Cleveland Orch.
Andre Previn --I know he's done Vienna Phil
