My dad will probably help my finance for a used Civic or Sentra like 1999-2002 ish, basically anything $120/month or less....

Which would be a better pick?

I am leaning towards the Sentra. :naughty:

is the spec V in that price range? i'd go with MT. i've driven one and been in one at auto-x. they're fairly decent.

I'd go for Sentra. There are too many civics on the road, and it's backed by Nissan. Both have lots of engine upgrades, get the Sentra.

Honestly I would go with the civic. There are a lot of them on the road, and there's a reason for it. They are very easy to mod, as long as you get a 2000 and older. The resale value of a corolla or sentra is horrid compared to a honda. Take a look at what older civics and sentras are selling for. Theres no substitute for quality and reliability.

02 Spec V's had alot of problems for being the first year back in production. Thats why i got an 04 :) if you do find an 02 in your price range just be sure that the previous owner has had all the recalls done.

you make a good point on the resale value, but that could also be a bad thing as this means you will have to pay more for a used civic........ do you expect to keep the car till it dies? or a couple of years and then xchange it? if you plan to trade it in later.. the resale value on the honda will help.

Honestly I would try and get an 99 SI civic coupe. They are in your price range and will have a large aftermaket following. Con is you will look like most 16 yrolds who just got there licence. I just noticed your from Oregon...... Hell ya. If you go to beaverton honda my budy is the manager of the service department. hes got a sick si you could check out.

i ment that nissan came back out with the ser & released the spec V in 02. If your gonna get a sentra dont waist ur time and $$ with just a base gxe/1.8s... get at least an ser. but if your limited between a base sentra and a civic... go with the civic.

i say go for the civic. only reason people dog on civics are coz of the damn ricer kids who drive them. otherwise they're fine cars and at the head of its class. neither car is meant to be fast and only idiots think civics and sentras are sporty cars. if i were in the market for a commuter/beater car and my choices were between a civic and sentra, i'd get the civic no question.

    Sentra Spec-V.

you get the 2.5L 4-banger (from the altima) in a very light car with a nice 6-speed tranny. Very fun to drive, and also VERY dependable.
