Headers are not whats keeping the basic civic motor from making power gains. leave it stock and reliable.

Technically speaking, this is the right place for this thread, but you're not going to get any useful info here. Go find a Civic/Integra/RSX tuner forum and ask there.

  5. Grassroots Motorsports did a dyno comparison between the DC Sports header, a header from a company I can't remember, and the stock manifold.

The DC header actually lost power and torque, both peak and average. The other header gained something like 2HP over stock.

There's no way I'd waste my money on something like that.

On the D16 Civics you will not see any great gains with bolt-ons. If your friend has an Si then headers make sense.

Because he's much better buying a big engine instead of learning how his engine works by trying to improve on it.

As much as I despise shitty riced Civics, I'd rather kids were playing with 2-liter fourbangers instead of 6-liter smallblocks.

You can "learn how an engine works" without wasting shitloads of money on useless upgrades.

Joining a forum that deals with [insert make/model here] and learning from those that have been there/done that is a good place to start.

I've gained tons of info on all three of my cars by checking out forums and picking the brains of members there. Hell, in the case of the Ford, I added to that knowledge base by experimenting, but that's a whole other story.

agreed, but if you want to get the most out of the mods, you need to do it right. if you get headers, get an exhaust. if you get those two, you should already have an intake.

if he prefers some suggestions, I suggest hondata and the necessary mods to support it.

  17. WTF? I don't like you anymore.

My buddy has a shop and I think like 90% of their business is Honda, they have this guy that has a 10 sec all motor civic so they know their honda shit. From what they were telling me pretty much all the "normal" headers that people buy are shit, and that if you want ACTUAL gains you need a GOOD one but its going to be $$$.

I know DC Sports was NOT one of the good ones. In other words pretty much every ricer out there has a header that is either doing nothing or costing them power.

I guess the word "kids" doesn't have much significance to you. I have no problem with grownups playing with 500hp.

Yes, he can. I was specifically addressing the recommendation that he should buy a real car with a real engine, which presumably would be fast enough that he wouldn't care to tinker with it.

Yes. In fact, I specifically recommended that earlier in the thread.

What was it you were disagreeing with, again? I lost track.

That's why I haven't bought a single thing for my car unless 1) I knew how it was going to improve the car, or 2) the manufacturer was willing to show me a before/after dyno graph. That last one pissed off a lot of sales guys.

how about if we split the diff and play with 500-600whp 2.6 liter I-6s?

    Hehe...oh man, I give up.

What kind of car would that be, perchance?

  24. We should encourage kids to play with manly American V8s. They just don't have to make 500hp.

    mine, eventually

planning on doing a RB26DETT swap into my 240Z, hopefully this year.

not going to be pushing it that much all the time though, I plan on keeping it to about 300-400whp most of the time.
