I guess it is my turn to get tore up by the business card nazi's here at the OTAP. So here is my business card. Attempt. I got some inspiration on the net obvioulsy but part of my goal is to have my business card to appear like my print presentation. I am packaging my prints in a brown 8x10 1/2" tall box. And I am lookiing into possibly having my name and strip cutout as a sticker to go one the packaging.

Well here it is, I am sure there is plenty or OT to hate on. Only what is within the green line is the actual card, the rest is the cutting area

are those green and blue lines part of your design? or are those the safety lines?

    reading > you. :mamoru:

I like it. It's different enough to stand out. Only thing I'd change is to bring 'photography' down a pixel or 2 so it doesn't look squished and cut off at the top of the yellow bar.

well, that said. I like it, I'd center your name a bit better (it looks too far left) and bring down photography a hair.

also they look like 3 different fonts, is it?

thanks- I am unsure which way I wanted it at first with the word photography. In the above photo the top of the letters does bleed into the backround on purpose. Here it is again with the word photography dropped down 2 pixels and I removed the safety margins as well

    yes and no.

My name, is not a font but if you want I guess you could say it is one, I think it is more of a logo.

Photography and the phone number and the email are all different. Each font had something I liked and did not like.

The font for photography, is only capital and the @ symbol looked like shit. I wanted email in lower case. I know that having too many fonts could kill the card, I was hoping that since I used all capps for one thing and all lower case for the other and all numbers for the other that I might be able to pull it off. I know, I have broken some golden rules of business cards. I also have gradients and textures for added bonuses

I have dropped photography, I am gonna look into the name beign straight also

    thanks

if the green is where its going to be cut, i think the C in your name will be too close to the edge

I think the 'C' of chris is a bit close to the cutting guide. Once that's cut out you may find it will look strange.

yeah, i'd go back into the .psd or .ai and remove the green lines rather than just crop them.

yes I am going to center my name better. thanks. I made some changes and did not realize that the name needed recentering.

I put the design up top cause I thought there was just too much space up there.

I print it out and it looks alot better than what the card appears to be on my monitor

    looks nice.

make sure you leave the other side white and write-able, so you can write notes on it.

I initially had a font choice that I liked but then I did not like certain letters and I then decided that I wanted my name to be my logo, so I altered the initial design with alot of patience, eraser, and pen tool to create a large size logo. I made a 10 inch size of my name and figured it is easier to downsize than to upsize

nice, but try to stick to one type of font (minus your stylized name).
So try putting "photography", your phone #, and email address in the same font

I don't like how condensed your email addy is, I'd like to see it squashed on Y by about 30%

ok, so I went and looked into all the things that were nmentioned that were technically wrong with the card.

I am posting what the finished card should look like AFTER cutting

-I recentered my name so that is is centered
-I brought down PHOTOGRAPHY down a bit to give a defined edge from the yellow stripe
-I found a different font that I liked for the word PHOTOGRAPHY and my email addy and they are now in identical fonts
-I free transformed my email addy so it was not so condensed.

    acab never called

    The name isn't centred still.

I also think the text of the email is still a bit tall.

    Looking better though.
