    What is the best cinema quality HD camcorder I can get for under $1000 ?

    How about $600 or lower?

    I must shoot HD for a mucho importante project.

    Thank you :bowdown::bowdown:

    I know precisely 0 about video but I'm fairly certain cinema quality and < $1000 don't go together.

    You won't need cinema quality unless you are viewing on a cinema sized screen. Are you?

    The project can't be all that mucho importante if your budget doesn't allow for a decent camera.

    The Sony HV20 is a solid camera, just make sure you get an external mic. Do that, and you'll be around $1000 for a semi-decent HD camera. But if you want true cinema quality, your budget needs to expand a great deal.

    True. And not just in the camera department.

    canon makes the hv20, not sony. i don't think he REALLY needs "cinema quality" if his budget is that low.

    :o

    mah bad. That is the model I meant though.

    And I can understand what he's trying to do, and that is probably the best camera he can afford, but I agree it's not designed for commercial production. Unless you are shooting Cloverfield 2 or the next Blair Witch Project.

    A note of interest, Cloverfield was shot with four cameras, the Thompson Grass Valley Viper in filmstream mode (for any shot with effect works) the Sony F23 for the New York shots and for the non-effects shots, a pair of Panasonic HVX200's

    Close. The film was shot with a 16mm camera loaded with black-and-white film, a Hi-8 camcorder and a digital audio device.

    Why different cameras for effect shots?

    Primarily because they needed a camera that had adjustable shutter angles to handle the high-motion shots. They needed frames that would be clean and distinct with no motion artifacting or doubling.

    16mm still gets used quite a bit. I love shooting with it and transferring the negative to tape.

    Take a look at Sony's XDCAM EX. Only $7790 for a sweet camera. It'll make you wish you were a porn star.

    We use it's big brother at my job.
