I visited a friend of mine and his wireless network was called "linksys"...along with three of his neighbors' networks. Only one "linksys" network would show up in the drop-down box, though I could see 3 or 4 at a time on kismac. I had no idea which network I was connecting to, and couldn't connect...

    any idears?

if you're a real friend, you'd tell your buddy to set his shit up properly

Try putting in a $ before the key, sometimes I have to do that on my mac when connecting to other networks.
