My dads Fiance wants a 35MM camera for XMas.

She went to Wal*Mart and the photo guy talked her into a Minolta Maxxum. While I'm sure a great camera, it's an SLR. And from talking to her - she wants something that takes great pictures, but is easy to use. I do realise they have an auto mode - but she wants a large zoom also - all of which she'd have to buy add'l lenses to get.

SLR's are typically more toward the professional end - wherein you can change lenges, override settings etc. I know she wants something fully automatic and with a nice zoom. This only had an 80mm zoom lens. While I realise that you can always purchase new lenses, its further going away from what she wants.

At any rate, I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of something like DCREVIEW.com - but for 35MM cameras.

I know Canon's (digital and 35MM) are always great - and for the money he'd end up spending I want her to get something she'll be able to get good use out of.

    Basically looking for:
    *Metal Body (preferred)
*Decent zoom 3x or more (115+)
*Differ photo styles w/ a fully auto setting

I was thinking something like the Canon Z155 or the 130U

    Canon's are usually great.

    Basically spending $229 or less.

What's th ebest 35MM to buy with a good zoom for family use that will take nice sharp pictures

    That's not zoom.

What about Rollei, Samsung Evoc, or Yashica
