not so much the actual license, but these damn classes!
you have to pay to take an initial class, understandable, but you also have to take renewal classes?!

The Texas CHL is expensive, but our license has reciprocity in more places than just about anyone else's.

hmmm.... I dunno what the renewal is like in Kansas since we haven't had CCW long enough for renewals to be necessary. Hopefully you don't have to re-take the class each time...

Why do you think I posted it? It gets you guys all worked up. This subforum is worse than arfcom.

Everyone here thinks they're the best at what they do. I mean look at you, you have a picture of a white fat guy as your av, which just further proves the stereotype of gun nuts.

I don't see why anyone would think a background check or a proficiency course would be a good thing for a concealed handgun license. :coolugh:

    My class was $80.
I had to write a check to SLED for $50 when I sent off my paperwork.
It's going to be $50 when I have to renew. :hs:

Thanks for the personal attack. I appreciate it. Yes I am a white fat guy. Who cares? My Av shows that I support people training and learning how to use their firearm in a safe and consistent manor.

Also I thought it was a cool picture of me doing a Tueller drill with a running target. Heard of that before? Or ever tried shooting it? Screw off....

Wow, that's the most powerful statement I've read all week.

But yah, I was looking at Top Gun: http://www.topgunrange.com/ it's $150, which is up there
I've seen it for around $100 (as low as 75 for renewal) other places, and really it is a matter of what maximus says- i shouldn't have to pay $20/yr to exercise my rights!

Texas also has the hardest CHL to get and the most stringent laws when it comes to CHL (Dont ever get caught doing anything illegal that involves drinking or drugs because it bumps up the crime)

I have a florida non-resident and used my hunter's safety but still took the louisiana ccw class.

class required or not, it's a damn good idea, at least to learn you specific state's laws in regards to the use of deadly force and other related things.

like 2lbunny said, what's your life worth? it's not a question that's just about shooting someone, it's about determining if the person you're going to pull the trigger on is worth going to jail for the rest of your life because you incorrectly thought you were legally justified in using deadly force.

Well, I guess I should first /get/ a concealable gun, and practice with it for a while before actually going to one of these classes

I kind of want a Colt SAA, but not so much to carry; just for the sake of having one because I think they're neat...

I've also been looking at the mosquito, because .22lr ammo is cheap; but i think i need a larger gun for the test (iirc they require .32 or greater)

So, those two are on my 'eventually' list; but I need a "rule number one" gun.

    well, time to start googling!

these (at least in my state) are state certified instructors whose sole purpose in doing the class is to tell you why, when and where to and not to carry and shoot.

and yes, you probably should know but no one should assume the laws or even make off-based judgments.

state approved and certified instructors will (or should) know how carry and deadly force laws are interpreted by the courts of their respective states. this is a biggie.

actually, alot of people/classes/instructors recommend not buying a gun for the class.

also, it may require "service caliber" handguns 38spl or better.

You SHOULD, but I would guess most people don't.

My course had a lawyer teach for a part of it.

Do I think it should be required to take a class to carry? No, but it is a very good idea.
