The 30 rounders are worth abou 15-20 a piece, and 1000 rounds of wolf ammo (assuming its wolf) is worth about 70-90 dollars. I'd say that's a pretty good price for all that. What kind of polymer stock does it have?

I bought my Yugoslavian SKS, never-shot, for $125. I'm not sure how much the Chinese SKS's go for though.

30 round detachable mags for the SKS do not work. you will find yourself kicking yourself in yourself's ass if you try to use them instead of a a fixed mag and stripper clips. the only time detachable mags work right in an sks is when you get one that takes actual AK mags. it has a different reciever, and does not take normal sks mags, or the detachables. only AK mags. they're also much less common.

30 round mags work fine in my Norinco SKS, but only the USA brand ones. Actually I've only tried one other type, and it didn't work, but I don't know what kind it was, it was just in a box at a gunshow.

Ya the 30 round mags are kind of a hit and miss thing. I've got a couple that work perfectly, then I've thrown some away that never feed correctly. I've found that the 20 round detachables are much more reliable, I've got several of them and have never had a problem.

Is it a paratrooper SKS? I had a Chinese paratrooper SKS and it would have feed problems. It seems not enough gas would build up to work the action.

I would prefer buying a new Yugo, better built and cheaper.
I never had good luck with the 30 rounders either. I would just keep them in place and feed the gun with strippers.

Actually both mine and my friends chinese SKS's are paratroopers. The only problem I've ever had with the steel USA 30 rounder is that sometimes it won't feed the last round because the magazine followers aren't that well made. I've thought about swapping them out with an AK mag follower to see if it worked better, but haven't gotten around to it.

the other problem with the detachable mags is that you need two hands to remove them. you have to take the rifle out of your shoulder, and take your finger away from the trigger. it's just a pain in the ass.

I started on a sks 9 years ago, now I have two ar 15's, m14, g3 clone, mini 30, and recently picked up an ak sar1. Call me crazy but the AK is becoming my favorite. Cheap to buy and shoot, simple to maintain. It will take a good beating (I would never want to drop my m14 she is to pretty). In competent hands very accurate. Finally as I said before cheap to buy. For 350 - 400 you can buy a sar 1 - 3 with a 40 rd hi capacity mag. It is well worth the extra buck.

it's not a high capacity mag, it's standard capacity. the others are low capacity, or neutered mags.

30's work in mine. Of course they are AK mags as mines a paratrooper model.

the paratrooper model is not necessarily an AK mag-taker. there are fixed mag paratroopers. the paratroopers just have shortened barrels.

Usually the SKS's that take AK mags are referred to as an SKS-D
