I'll be moving to Chicago in a couple of weeks and I'll need a new gym for home.

What are the major chains in the area, and are there any really good specialty gyms for power/olympic/westside/etc lifting?

    Quads for sure!

I currently go to Lifetime Fitness in the suburbs (because I work there), but this fall I will be in the city for school and will use the school gym while there.. but THEN, after school, you will undoubtably find me at Quads Gym.

UIC's new gym is VERY VERY nice. They did well with that place I think.

Also, Depaul's gym is incredibly nice as well. Not quite as big as UIC's but with nicer equipment, a nicer facility and not too much smaller.

    Lifetime Fitness, I work there.

This fall however I am transfering to either DePaul or UIC and will be living in the city so it is good to know that either of the 2 schools have great gyms for me to use :)

want to get me in free a couple times this week? Xsport in AH either doesn't have AC or has too many sweaty guys heating up the place.

As much as I hate these overcrowded commercial gyms... Lifetime > Xport.

Which Lifetime is closest to AH? I think it would be the Shaumburg club, which is still probably 25min from you.
