So I went to a herbalist that has been highly recommended to me by many. He is proficient in herbal medicines, accupuncture, massage etc.. Had his own clinic for 15 years.

I got there he asked to feel my pulse, and asked to see my tongue ( I know, I know, cue the porn music ) Anyway, he was able to tell a few things from this, he talked about my lack of sleep, and high anxiety. Keep in mind I went to him for help with my lower back issues. He explained that from what he can tell, I am eating foods that are inhibiting my blood flow and proper nurtrients to my body, especially places like my back.

He explianed that accupuncture and massage can help short term, but to cure the problem, I need to make some changes to allow for better "yin" for a permanent cure. Basically increasing the yin will increase or at least the better the blood flow in my system. I cannot remember all of his explanation, but I am curious to try what he says.

He also told me that all this stuff is relative. One diet may be good for one person, but not good at all for another. We went through my diet and he asked me to change it for a week. These are the foods he told me to concentrate on:

wheat, oats, millet, barley, PORK, chicken, duck, BONE MARROW SOUPS, eggs, butter, goat milk and cheese, black sesame seeds, SQUASH etc... those are a few of the many.

    He said avoid these foods:

chillies, curry, cinnamon, garlic, ginger, onion, shallots, basil, coffee, tea, wasabi, citrus, pickles, vinegar.

He did say however, when I am stressed and suffer anxiety to eat some of the avoided foods.

With this diet change he wants me to try for one week, actual herbs in concentrated pill form. I will have 3 a day, 3 times a day.

Has anyone delt with this stuff? What are your thoughts?

There is a place down the road from my house that does psychic reading and tarot cards, does that count?

Seriously though, if the guy seems on the up and up, then its probably worth a shot... epecially if conventional methods aren't helping you any. If it works then awesome. If not then you're out a few consultation fee's and whatever he's chargin for the "herbals".

I dunno. The thing that threw me off is that he told you not to drink tea - Freshly brewed tea w/o sugar is one of the most neutral and healthy liquids you can drink aside from water.

I know jack shit about herbal medicine.

That said, let us know how it works out for you. After you posted that lunch preparation thread, I do something similar now. I cook two chicken breasts the night before on my foreman grill with some dry rub, cut it up, and mix it with spinach and other greens. :o

Yeah, went to a sports med guy. Did x-rays and am awaiting a CT. The x-ray showed slight compression in l1 l2, and showed my old injury (compression of l4-l5) had almost fully healed. Doc said it was nothing to worry about as the compression was minor or close to non-existant. However, he said that the force to do that could have caused impingment or pinching of a nerve, and ofcourse herniation. The CT will show more detail, but he is treating me as if I have herniated or even ruptured the disc. I am still sore when I wake up and sore when I sit for too long.
The chiro and ART was interesting> It relieved pressure and I was always able to stand straight up after the therapy. But within a few days I would be in discomfort.
Its been a month since I lifted weights. Tonight I plan on doing some leg extensions and maybe pull ups - I am going nuts swimming and riding the recumbant bike :(

Nice, I have had to change my diet recently cause of the herbalist and his thoughts. I am giving it a try, will be cutting out a lot of protein. He told me this:

    Morning: Eat like a merchant
    Afternoon: Eat like an emporer
    Night: Eat like a peasant

Basically, medium breaky, big ass lunch, and tiny dinner. I slept a lot better the past couple nights with this. Who knows?!!?

but you dont really need to go to anyone who's "higly recommended by many"

most of the places if it looks legit it usually is

:dunno: I know people who swear by homeopathy, but it's never worked for me..who can tell. Give it a try for a couple of weeks it certainly won't hurt you.
