Don't waste the extra $$ on a shitty bodykit... just buy a ZQ8 and spend the extra $ you saved by not buying a xtreme on mods.

just don't get a 2.2. The mileage really isnt that much better than the 4.3.

i've got a 2.2 and the only reason I don't hate it is because it's a 5spd and I couldnt find any manual v6s when I was looking.

yes it is, its rare to see the 4.3 guys over 20mpg regularly, heck i get 23-24mpg beating the shit out of the 2.2

but yea do not under any circumstances get a 2.2 and an auto, its hard to imagine something even slower than my 5spd 2.2

I have been getting 23.2 on mine over the past 6 or 7 tanks.

For the extra amount of performance you get out of a 4.3, the 3-4 mpg decrease is worth it i think.

Couldn't agree more. I love mine. Except that I discovered some ass put a big ass dent in my shaved tailgate today, so now I have to get that fixed. I wish I knew when it happened.

I only get around 20 mpg or a little better on the highway with my 4.3 and 3.42 rear end. The best I have ever got was the first tank I ever put in it and drove to Dallas on. Got 24 mpg that time. But its still a hell of a lot better than the 13-15 I used to get with my ZR2.

Used to have an Xtreme, 4.3L 5-speed, was a cool little truck. Felt like you were driving a car most of the time, but could haul around hockey equipment in the back. A little overpriced though.

Turbocharging a 4.3 cost around 6,000 just to get a basic setup done. Most people can't afford to put down that type of cash. I have looked into a complete motor buildup and turbo package for the 4.3 and it would cost every bit of 13K just to get into the low 12s. For that price you could do a lot of better things to other vehicles, or even drop in an LS1 and get the same numbers.

Im not saying that you HAVE to strengthen the motor to turbo it. It is a good motor in stock form and most run 8 pounds of boost with no problems. The cost issue comes from the fact that there is only one ready to go kit on the market and it is made by mach performance. It is a good kit, but is pricey, but if the alternative is developing your own system, mach is the way to go. Personally, I would love to turbo my truck, but I would also expect numbers well into the 400 hp range, which requires motor work and a lot more boost and $$$.

yeah I think it's like 5300 or something... but, there's a lot of fabing you've got to do to make it fit..... but I think overall it's more "tuneable" than the SC is.

man, is it now a trend to paint the chrome bar on non-xtreme grille shells? i did mine back when the ONLY trucks like that were xtremes, and i was the only person i knew of that had it that way. though, it does look good. a brushed billet bowtie would set that off nicely, aggie. that's what mine is: dark copper metallic paint, brushed street scene speed grille inserts, brushed aluminum trenz bowtie, with clear lenses. i can tell you, it looks good.

I had a 99 Xtreme s10 2.2. It was a fun car and i put a killer stereo in it, but it died after 3 years 80K miles. I was very disappointed in it. I drove it hard though because it was slow. Get the 4.3 and supercharge it if possible.

it certainly looks a hell of a lot better without the chrome.

I've been getting 21mpg in my 4.3 on the highway here lately (4.3 + auto + 3.42 open), although the first time I drove up here to Tallahassee I somehow got 24 :eek3:

Wish I could see that every time but oh well :hs:
