Checked out a STi tonight (not test drive)

Cocksuckers wouldn't let me drive one.

Salesman told me, and I quote,

"Subaru drivers are picky. We've had guys pass up buying an STi because it had 5 miles on it. That's why we don't allow test drives."

Who is he fucking kidding? not me.

Anyway, the car is nice. Quick rundown of my impression:

-Build quality definitely a slight step up from the Evo

-17" wheels look like 18" in person

-Hood scoop doesn't look as ridiculous in person

-Steering wheel was big and plasticy and stupid looking

-Seats were ugly, uncomfortable, and very cheap feeling. Look like they were made by Nike. Evo seats completely blow them away.

-Shifter is very tall, but is very stiff and shifts feel exact, not mushy.

-Car doesn't come with floor mats. :wtf:

-Engine bay is CRAMPED. Pity the poor SOB who has to work on this car. I have no trouble believing the rumors of this engine getting very hot.

-Intercooler spray is manual only. Evo has manual and automatic.

-Evo has much more legroom for both driver and rear passenger. With driver seat all the way back in STi, I could barely get in the back. In the Evo, it's not that hard (i'm 6'3"). Evo driver seat goes back much further.

-Clutch pedal too close to brake pedal. If you have a size 8 shoe, it's perfect.

Subaru dealer shit talked the Evo the whole night.

"I got [sic] 8 Lancers out there in the used lot selling for $9999. An Evo isn't much more than taking one of those and putting a fancy wing and a turbo on. It's lower quality stuff. Mitsubishi doesn't even participate in rally racing any longer, they know they cannot compete against Subaru." (not true, Mitsu pulled out for a year).

Price on STi is $32,180. They will not budge on price. Evo is $30,000. I know I can get it for at least $1000 less than that. So a $3000 difference, at least.

So for $3000 more I get a car with 30 more horsepower, crappy seats, no sunroof, and no stereo. I think it's down to the Evo and the S4, boys and girls.

remember when you get a new car drive up to them and ask for the salesman

  5. evo is lacking the looks.

Remember though, when you buy the evo you got to pay to remove the tail lights

I told the Evo salesman about what Subaru guys told me and he wanted me to stop by and honk at the guy (dealerships are right next to each other).

yeah but the evo has had its fair share of current issues. I'm not too big on the decel noise some peopel are hearing. Thing is you gotta drive one, in an sti you feel no lag at all, I've heard with people that the evo's dont really get going till about 3500 rpm (again this is what I read, i never have driven one so that is something to take into account)
I think you should drive it first then narrow your choices down. Try some other dealers, or maybe ask around, maybe some of yoru friends friends might know of someone who owns one?

:eek3: That fucking hood scoop is almost as tall as the damn wing! :eek3:

Subaru tries to get 1 up on Mitsu by adding 30hp and still comes up slower(very slightly, yes, but slower none the less)... with an uglier car to say the least... Definately go with the EVO or the S4 :bigthumb:

Maybe find someone who has one. No dealer is going to budge on the test drive.

The Evo definitely suffers from lack of power under 3000 rpms. And the instrument gauges look cheap shit.

if it were between an EVO and STI, i would buy the STI. and ya, i wouldn't buy one with miles on it, so i can sorta understand not letting people drive them. someone will buy it without taking a test drive.

but then again, it does kinda suck not driving a car that you are wanting to buy
