My friends dad passed away and I was helping him go through a garage full of crap the last couple days. We found this old gun all packed away and my friend said I could have it. I had no idea what it was but I got home and did some research and talked some people online and found out it is actually a rare gun and a kick ass carbine to shoot. It is a Wilkinson Arms Linda 9mm carbine. There were made in 1989. I checked around and hey sell for $1,400! I told my friend about it and asked if he wanted it back but said I could keep it . There were only 2,200 made..

I would hold on to it. Your friend is in grief right now. He just lost his dad and when that happens it's easy to give away shit only to regret it later on after the grief has passed.

I don't believe this is a "good friend" move. IMO this is a "holy fuck my world just imploded" kind of move.

I think you are mistaken, its probably a fake can on the front to get the barrel to the minimum length.

It looks a little short but it's probably right at 16 inches.

The barrel goes into the receiver and it is exactly 16". Completely assembled it is exactly 30" as well.

Good point, but on the other hand your friends never mean more to you than after you suffer a tragedy.
My dad died when I was young and my friends kept me sane.
Maybe a good idea to give him an "out" and offer it back to him a few months down the road - it is a family heirloom.

His dad didn't just die, he died a few months ago we just started going through his stuff. If he ever asked for it back i would give it back no questions asked.
