What would you build and how cheaply can it be done?

i don't think it's possible to build one for $400. i mean, the stripped upper and lower receivers by themselves will cost you half of that at least.

Using all new parts your looking at about $600 after shipping and ffl fee. $400 is impossible unless you get a hell of a deal from someone. Even with used parts you'll be looking at $500+

I think that if I choose to make another AR, Im going to maybe look into buying an early 70s M16 parts kit. And then just buy a receiver, receiver parts kit, and maybe an RRA 2-stage trigger. Id love to have an old styled AR, and whats better is it would be an ex-m16 rifle :coold:

Cost should be $600 to $700 depending on if I get a 2-stage trigger or not

Not that hard, you need a stripped lower, lower parts kit (this includes all the internals and usually the p grip) a stock, assemble those parts you have a complete lower. For the upper you need the upper, barrel, gas tube, handguards, front sight, then the appropiate upper parts kit for whatever style upper your using.
