I am looking to get a buffer/polisher for personal use. Are there cheaper alternatives to the PC?

The PC isn't too expensive. I think for what you get, its pretty worth it. The thing is damn well built. :)

Whats your price range? Maybe you can get the word out and detail a couple cars by hand to pay for a PC? :dunno:

I don't know if the sale is still going, but members of www.meguiarsonline.com can purchase a G100 (relabled Porter Cable 7424) including the backing plate and a polishing pad for $149.99. Probably a little more than some other places, but you do get a lifetime warranty if that is important to you.

I don't know of a cheaper DA buffer that is comparible to the Porter Cable.

You can get a simoniz 8 inch for about $25 USD, or a 10 inch for like $40 USD, but you will be very unhappy.

I thought it would be good enough for me (got the 10 inch), and I've already spent the money on a PC now. Best money I spent on detailing supplies all summer! :bigthumb:

The Meguiar's sale ended Spet 30th :hs:

Definately get a PC, those cheap ass buffers are shit...they don't have the speed or the pad availability to do anything like a PC.
