My mom needs a new laptop that will be strictly for internet/email. I think she does go onto some cheesy flash game websites but she doesn't "game".

Only real requirement is she'll need at least the 15" screen. Doesn't really matter if it's heavy because she won't leave the house with it. Hard drive space doesn't really matter but at least 200GB would be nice. Needs built in wireless but that's standard probably.

Does anyone know of any specific deals going on right now (coupons, etc)?

I'm about to hit up the slickdeal/fatwallet sites but if anyone knows of a specific deal please let me know.

EDIT: Budget is pretty firm @ $450.

I was going to recommend a netbook until I saw the screen size requirement.

gotapex.com is another site to look for computer deals. They have a pretty good amount of Dell stuff. You could probably pick up an entry level machine for a couple hundred.

Why does she need 200GB to surf the web/email?

thanks for the site recommendation, I'll look around.

She probably doesn't. But I figure if she gets alot of pictures emailed to her of the grandkids and nieces/nephews the storage would help.

Plus I haven't laptop shopped in a while but I would imagine most newer laptops come with at least 160GB drives and above.

I've looked a little here and there and nothing particular has caught my eye.

I saw some at the dell outlet but the ones in her range are not C2D and not that she has to have that I would hate to buy her totally outdated technology.

see if you can find a refurbed or opened or whatever business laptop off dell depot, or one of the other major players.

she needs a larger screen because she uses a lower resolution.

    Found an Inspiron 1545
Intel Pentium Dual Core - 2160
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
    15.6" Screen
160 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    3 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz (2 DIMMs)
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD

It also says under the specs "Inspiron 15 (1545) Laptop: Intel Pentium Dual Core T3400 (2.16GHz/667Mhz FSB/1MB cache)"

Not sure why it also says "Intel Pentium Dual Core - 2160".

Wonder what the actual processor is?

    It's $419 refurb. Worth it?

    2160 MHz = 2.16GHz

    it is a T3400, a Merom

I think this is a better deal though:
    http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/167213
2.0GHz T4200, a Penryn (same performance as T3400 but runs cooler and consumes less power), bigger hdd, $449 new :dunno:

    Looking at this one now.

Preliminary ship date is 6/29. Wonder if that's pretty accurate?

well,.. they basically need time to config the laptop and its mostly accurate,... but delays do happen

    also,... just so you know:
T3XXX and T4XXX cpus are pretty much at the low end side
if you can find a T5XXX (Merom) or T6XXX (Penryn) 15" laptop for $450,... definitely get that one.
laptop cpus obviously isn't as easy to upgrade as hdds, ram, or battery.
