I looking for a pretty cheap host (less than 10 a month), I'm not really looking for anything great, just something simple to host a web design portfolio site to send people to. And a google search turned up thousands of pretty shitty looking places. I don't really care if its a middle man or not. Does anybody have any experience or suggestions? thanks

edit: on a second note, serious question, any ideas for a name of a web design firm? I had a name but every domain with the name is taken. :wtc:

I messaged you, but I also recommend checking out www.webhostingtalk.com it is really the ultimate resource for this kind of thing.

ive been using them for awhile.... a few hiccups when upgrading to MySQL 5, hopefully PHP5 will be coming along shortly.... other than that, no real complaints.

I am going to ask some dumbass questions, but I am completely new at this website stuff. 1&1 looks pretty good, if I have a site custom built can I just upload it if I have a package and it will work or do I have to use their website building software?

Any hosting service should be able to provide you with ftp access so all you need do is upload your site, change the nameservers with the registrar, and you're good to go.

Although I don't have personal experience with 1&1, I've heard their name frequently and am sure that you don't have to use any special web building software provided by them.

Ok, skip 1 & 1 after those reviews, thanks for that btw.

I am looking at midphase now, anyone have any issues or experience with them?

Edit. nevermind, they have bad reviews also.

meh, I haven't had any problems with 1&1 in the year I have been using them, but then again I don't need to call their customer service every day and ask them to hold my hand for every little menial thing like all those negative reviews seem to indicate
