goto the home depot or lowe's and get the stick on asphalt peel and stick

same as some sound damping products.

Home depot has asphalt mats..which you don't want. They're functionally OK for surfaces where gravity holds them in place, mostly. For anything vertical or upside down they'll detach the first time they get hot in the sun. And probably smell like shit.

They also have good sized rolls of adhesive butyl that i've seen people use with some success, but only as a simple mass loader. It'll stop rattles from low freq. sound but won't do much for road noise and other resonances like the better, backed damping mats will.

Personally I've used second skin more than anything else. Damplifier rocks, its not that expensive (relative to others anyway)..and if you put some foam over it, you end up with a car that sounds like it cost 20K more than it did.

actually there is a test of sound damping materials that declares some "audio" versions of peel and stick are actually rebadged roofing peel and stick. I'll try to find it.

This is the case in virtually every accessory market today. A vendor goes to thomas.net and gets a manufacturer list of a given product and after a few contacts gets some basic material rebranded and sells it as the next greatest fix.
It's naive to think that damping materials wouldn't be effected by this.

yeah, i went to lowes and pick up some peel-n-seal years ago and is still stuck to my doors! It's a tad thinner than dynamat and secondskin but its still 4x cheaper!
Just make sure you clean the surface well and really roll it onto the surface with a roller!

i used it all over my car. my car no longer rattles anywhere from my sub and you can't hear my stereo outside the car. cost a couple hundred bucks for enough to do the entire car.
